Insert a screwdriver or disposal wrench into the mounting bracket on the lower mounting ring.

I had trouble getting the rusted metal ring to move to remove the old unit but i finally got that stubborn sob to turn and the disposal is off. As the lower ring is turned each tab grabs onto a flange red arrow the flanges are actually ramps as this side view shows. It screws onto the drain and then holds a mounting bracket for the garbage disposal. A garbage disposal flange is the part of the unit that connects it to the underside of the sink drain.

Disconnect power unplug the garbage disposal or if the garbage disposal is hardwired turn the power off at the electrical box. If a disposer needs to be removed simply tapping on the ear with a hammer will quite easily loosen the lower mounting ring. So now i m trying to remove the rusted ring and the flange. Never place your hand in the disposal.

Turn clockwise until the disposal is locked into place. Always use tongs or needle nose pliers to remove an object. As i mentioned in another thread i m trying to replace my old kenmore garbage disposal with a new model since the old one won t work. On sep 30 2010.

Make sure the disposal outlet faces the drain pipe connection.
